Product Description

The 2-way linear cover splits the slot discharge to both sides rather than letting it drop straight down the middle. Half one way, half the other.
That suits the common case where a linear diffuser runs above a walkway, a seating area or a bed and the problem is not which side the air goes, but that it falls directly below. Pushing it sideways in both directions takes the column out of the middle without concentrating it anywhere.
The cover is 48 inches long, 6 inches wide and 2.75 inches deep, in polystyrene, holding magnetically on the diffuser or a 1-inch grid system. The manufacturer states it suits diffuser widths of roughly 2.75 to 4.75 inches.

What does a 2-way linear deflector do?

It opens both sides of the slot and spreads the discharge across them. The air still leaves the diffuser at the same rate, but instead of dropping into the space directly underneath it travels sideways in two directions along the ceiling. Each side carries roughly half, so neither stream throws as hard as the single-side 1-way does. On a 4-foot slot that difference is easy to feel standing underneath.

Why choose 2-way over 1-way on a linear run?

Because a 4-foot slot pushing everything one way is a lot of air on one line. The 1-way is the right call when one side is genuinely unusable, a window you want to wash with air or a wall you need to keep clear of. The 2-way is the better default when both sides have somewhere for the air to go, since halving the throw makes it gentler in each direction and you are less likely to create a second complaint at the far end of the room.

Will it fit your diffuser?

Width first. The manufacturer states this cover suits diffuser widths of roughly 2.75 inches up to and including 4.75 inches, so measure the slot before ordering. Outside that range it is the wrong part. Then the attachment surface, because the magnets hold on the diffuser or a 1-inch grid and both need to be steel. Then clearance: 2.75 inches below the ceiling line for the depth of the cover. Measure the slot itself rather than the trim around it, since the trim can be an inch wider than the opening and will give you the wrong answer.

What if your run is longer than 4 feet?

Count the sections before you order. Each cover is 48 inches, so a 12-foot run needs three and an 8-foot run needs two. Where a run does not divide evenly, decide in advance where the uncovered gap sits. The 2-way is more forgiving than the 1-way here. With both sides open the pattern stays symmetrical, so a gap in the middle of a treated run reads less obviously than it would with a one-sided throw, where the untreated section suddenly behaves differently from its neighbours.

How does it install?

Lift it to the slot and let the magnets take it. Nothing to screw, wire or make good. Orientation is less critical than on the 1-way since both sides are open, which makes a 4-foot part easier to place single-handed, though a second person still helps. Once it is up, stand underneath and check what has changed before moving on to the next section.

Does this affect the rest of the system?

Little at a single run. The slot passes the same volume and simply delivers it sideways instead of downward. Across a long perimeter treated section by section, the combined effect is a broader, gentler delivery rather than a redirect, which is generally the easier change for a system to absorb. If you are covering an entire elevation, mention it to whoever looks after the HVAC.

Is this a filter?

No. It changes where the air goes, not what is in it. No filter media, no MERV rating, no filtration claim. Filtration is a separate product line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 2-way linear deflector do?

A: It opens both sides of the slot and spreads the discharge sideways in two directions instead of letting it fall directly below. Each side carries roughly half the air.

Should I choose 1-way or 2-way?

A: Take the 1-way when one side is genuinely unusable and you need the air pushed the other way. Take the 2-way when both sides have somewhere for the air to go, since halving the throw is gentler in each direction.

My run is longer than 4 feet. What do I order?

A: Count the 48-inch sections you need and decide where any gap falls. The 2-way is more forgiving than the 1-way on a partially covered run, because the pattern stays symmetrical.

What diffuser width does it fit?

A: The manufacturer states roughly 2.75 inches up to and including 4.75 inches. Measure the slot before ordering, because outside that range this is the wrong part.

Is this an air filter?

A: No. It redirects or restricts discharge. There is no filter media and no MERV rating. Filtration products are listed separately.

My linear run is longer than 4 feet. What then?

A: Each cover is 48 inches. A longer run takes more than one, so work out the count and where the joins land before ordering rather than on the ladder.

Customer Testimonials

Life-changing for my daughter with asthma. We installed these in her bedroom and playroom, and her nighttime coughing has decreased dramatically. The pediatrician even noticed improvement in her breathing. We now replace filters monthly religiously – it is the best $20/month we spend for her health.

– Jennifer M., Portland, OR (Mother of 8-year-old with asthma)

I cannot believe the difference in dust accumulation. We used to dust furniture near vents twice a week – now maybe once a month. And my seasonal allergies are noticeably better when I am at home. The filter replacement is super easy, takes 30 seconds. Wish I had found these years ago.

– Robert T., Atlanta, GA (Allergy sufferer)

We have two cats and my husband is allergic. These filters in the bedroom have been a marriage-saver! He can actually breathe at night now. We still have the cats (obviously), but the constant sneezing and congestion is gone. The filters definitely catch pet hair – you can see it when you replace them monthly.

– Sandra K., Chicago, IL (Pet owner)

As a property manager, tenants with allergies always complained about air quality. These covers have been perfect – affordable enough to install in multiple units, and the health benefit keeps tenants happy and renewing leases. I stock replacement filters and sell them at cost. Total game-changer for tenant satisfaction.

– Patricia L., Denver, CO (Property Manager, 40 units)

My son has severe dust mite allergies. His allergist recommended covering vents in his bedroom. These filter covers have made such a difference – his morning congestion is almost gone. The investment in monthly filters is nothing compared to what we used to spend on allergy medications.

– Michael S., Phoenix, AZ (Father of child with dust mite allergy)
