Product Description

If you have a Mars 888 Traffic Breaker on a truck and you are tired of changing the lamp, this is the kit that fixes that. It swaps the incandescent setup for an LED module and driver, and the housing already bolted to your apparatus stays exactly where it is.
Two part numbers, one decision. LED888CK carries white LEDs for a clear-lens beacon. LED888CKR carries red LEDs for a red-lens beacon. Both run 12 to 24 VDC and both cost $325.
One thing to be clear about before you order. This is a kit, not a beacon. The box holds the LED module and heat sink, the DC driver, and the wire nuts and ties to finish the job. If your housing is damaged or missing, a kit will not help you.

Does the LED888CK kit include a complete Mars 888 beacon?

No. It upgrades a beacon you already own. The source description in the workbook says "Beacon Light Vehicle Assembly", which has caused confusion before, and the manufacturer is unambiguous on this point: LED888CK and LED888CKR are conversion kits. You get the light module with its heat sink, the DC LED driver, and the wire nuts and ties. The stainless housing, the pedestal, the lens and the oscillating mechanism all stay on the truck.

Which Mars 888 models can you convert?

Four, according to the manufacturer: TB8-12P, TB8-24P, TB8-12F and TB8-24F. That list is short on purpose. Mars 888 beacons have been in service for decades across several generations, and a kit that fits one does not automatically fit another. Before ordering, find the model number on the unit itself rather than working from a purchase record or what the last person told you. If the number on your beacon is not one of those four, ask before you buy.

White or red: which kit do you need?

Match the LEDs to the lens already fitted. LED888CK has white LEDs and goes behind a clear lens. LED888CKR has red LEDs and goes behind a red lens. Red behind red gives you a proper red output. White behind clear gives maximum brightness. Mix them and you get something dimmer and muddier than either. Look at the lens before ordering, and check the manufacturer's instruction if the beacon has been repaired and you are not sure what is on it.

What do you gain by converting to LED?

Mostly, you stop changing lamps. The manufacturer rates the LED module at 50,000 hours against roughly 300 for the incandescent it replaces. That is the difference between a part you service regularly and one you largely forget. Current draw drops by about half, staying under 1.5A at 12 VDC, which matters on apparatus where the electrical budget is already tight. The LED module carries a five-year warranty.

How long does the conversion take?

The manufacturer says under 30 minutes. Treat that as a figure for a clean unit on a bench with the right tools to hand, because a beacon that has spent fifteen years on a pump will not come apart as quickly as one that has not. The official procedure has you remove the unit from the vehicle first, and there are electrical precautions in the installation PDF worth reading before you start rather than halfway through.

Should you convert, replace the lamp, or buy a new beacon?

Depends what broke. Housing sound and you are sick of changing bulbs? Convert. Housing sound and you need it working tonight for the least money? A replacement lamp does that, though you will be back here eventually. Housing itself failed? Neither one helps and you are buying a complete beacon. Work out which problem you have before spending $325.

Who buys these kits?

Fire apparatus maintenance, mostly, along with fleet shops looking after older emergency vehicles. The pattern repeats: a department has several trucks carrying Mars 888 beacons that still look right and still mount correctly, and nobody wants to pay for a full replacement to solve a lamp problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the LED888CK include a complete beacon?

A: No. It is an upgrade kit for an existing incandescent Mars 888. The housing, pedestal and lens stay on the vehicle.

What voltage do these kits run on?

A: The manufacturer specifies 12-24 VDC, so one kit covers both 12 volt and 24 volt apparatus.

Which Mars 888 versions can be upgraded?

A: The manufacturer lists TB8-12P, TB8-24P, TB8-12F and TB8-24F. Check the model number on the unit before ordering, since other generations have not been confirmed.

How long does the installation take?

A: The manufacturer says under 30 minutes. Allow more for a beacon that has been in service a long time, and read the installation PDF before starting.

Which colour kit do I need?

A: LED888CK has white LEDs for a clear-lens beacon. LED888CKR has red LEDs for a red-lens beacon. Match the kit to the lens already fitted.

Does the kit need an LED driver?

A: Yes, and one is included. You do not need to source a driver separately.

Customer Testimonials

Life-changing for my daughter with asthma. We installed these in her bedroom and playroom, and her nighttime coughing has decreased dramatically. The pediatrician even noticed improvement in her breathing. We now replace filters monthly religiously – it is the best $20/month we spend for her health.

– Jennifer M., Portland, OR (Mother of 8-year-old with asthma)

I cannot believe the difference in dust accumulation. We used to dust furniture near vents twice a week – now maybe once a month. And my seasonal allergies are noticeably better when I am at home. The filter replacement is super easy, takes 30 seconds. Wish I had found these years ago.

– Robert T., Atlanta, GA (Allergy sufferer)

We have two cats and my husband is allergic. These filters in the bedroom have been a marriage-saver! He can actually breathe at night now. We still have the cats (obviously), but the constant sneezing and congestion is gone. The filters definitely catch pet hair – you can see it when you replace them monthly.

– Sandra K., Chicago, IL (Pet owner)

As a property manager, tenants with allergies always complained about air quality. These covers have been perfect – affordable enough to install in multiple units, and the health benefit keeps tenants happy and renewing leases. I stock replacement filters and sell them at cost. Total game-changer for tenant satisfaction.

– Patricia L., Denver, CO (Property Manager, 40 units)

My son has severe dust mite allergies. His allergist recommended covering vents in his bedroom. These filter covers have made such a difference – his morning congestion is almost gone. The investment in monthly filters is nothing compared to what we used to spend on allergy medications.

– Michael S., Phoenix, AZ (Father of child with dust mite allergy)
