Product Description

The PL2 and PL2-S are polycarbonate LED light heads for loading dock lights. This is the head on its own, not a complete dock light, so you are buying it to go on an arm you already have or one ordered separately.
Both heads run 13.4 watts on 120V 60Hz, produce 1,331 lumens at 5000K through a 10-degree beam, and carry a safety bumper. The beam is deliberately narrow, which puts the light where a worker is actually looking inside a trailer.
One thing separates the two models. The PL2-S has a switch and the PL2 does not. That choice depends entirely on what is already on your arm, which is the first thing to check.

PL2 or PL2-S: which switch arrangement do you need?

Start with the arm. The standard DL2 arm has a switch built in, according to the manufacturer's PL2 page, which means a head with its own switch would give you two in the same circuit. In that case the plain PL2 is the one to order. The PL2-S suits an arm with no switch, where you want local control at the head. Confirm what the installed arm has before ordering either.

Is this a light head only or a complete dock light?

A head only. It arrives as the light itself, with no arm, no mounting struts and no wall bracket. That is the point of the product: when a dock light fails, the head is usually what failed, and replacing it costs far less than the whole assembly. Keep the order clear on this, or a site expecting a complete dock light loses a day.

What output do the PL2 heads produce?

The manufacturer specifies 1,331 lumens at 13.4 watts, in 5000K, through a 10-degree beam. Two numbers matter most. The 5000K neutral white shows label print and packaging colors accurately, which beats a warmer tone for paperwork in a trailer. The 10-degree beam is tight, concentrating light where it is aimed rather than spreading it around the dock.

Will a PL2 head fit your existing dock arm?

Check two things. Physical fit, which depends on the mounting interface at the end of the arm, and whether an adapter is involved. PL2 heads fit traditional arms through a DL2 adapter, which the manufacturer lists for that purpose. The second is electrical: the head is specified at 120V 60Hz, so the supply has to match. Confirm both for the arm in front of you.

What warranty applies to the PL2?

This is unresolved and the page should say so rather than pick a number. The current manufacturer product page states five years. The linked DL2 specification sheet states three. Both come from the manufacturer, so one is out of date, and there is no telling which from the outside. Get written confirmation from TriLite before putting a term in front of a buyer.

Does the PL2 carry an IP66 rating?

No such rating has been established for it. The IP66 figure appears in a shared DL2 specification document where it is assigned to the HDL2, which is a different head with cast-aluminum construction. Specifications in a shared document do not transfer between the products listed in it. If your installation needs a wet-location rated head, the HDL2 is the one carrying that rating, and the PL2 should not be specified into that role on the strength of a neighbouring line in a datasheet.

How does the PL2 compare with the INCHEAD-PLED?

Different approaches to the same job. The PL2 is an integrated LED head: the light source is part of the unit and the whole head is replaced at end of life. The INCHEAD-PLED is a polycarbonate housing that takes a screw-in PAR38 bulb, so the bulb is replaceable on its own. Integrated heads run longer between interventions. Bulb-based heads cost less to put right. Which suits you depends on how your maintenance team works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the S in PL2-S mean?

A: The PL2-S includes a switch and the PL2 does not. Electrically and optically the two heads are otherwise identical.

Does the standard DL2 arm already have a switch?

A: Yes, according to the manufacturer's PL2 page. Confirm the installed arm before choosing a head, since a switched head on a switched arm gives you two switches in one circuit.

Is the PL2 IP66 rated?

A: No such rating has been established for the PL2. The IP66 figure in the shared DL2 specification is assigned to the HDL2, and it should not be carried across.

What warranty applies to the PL2?

A: This is unresolved. The manufacturer product page says five years while the linked DL2 specification says three. Obtain current written confirmation before relying on either figure.

Is this a complete dock light?

A: No. The PL2 and PL2-S are light heads only. The arm and mounting hardware are separate products.

Customer Testimonials

Life-changing for my daughter with asthma. We installed these in her bedroom and playroom, and her nighttime coughing has decreased dramatically. The pediatrician even noticed improvement in her breathing. We now replace filters monthly religiously – it is the best $20/month we spend for her health.

– Jennifer M., Portland, OR (Mother of 8-year-old with asthma)

I cannot believe the difference in dust accumulation. We used to dust furniture near vents twice a week – now maybe once a month. And my seasonal allergies are noticeably better when I am at home. The filter replacement is super easy, takes 30 seconds. Wish I had found these years ago.

– Robert T., Atlanta, GA (Allergy sufferer)

We have two cats and my husband is allergic. These filters in the bedroom have been a marriage-saver! He can actually breathe at night now. We still have the cats (obviously), but the constant sneezing and congestion is gone. The filters definitely catch pet hair – you can see it when you replace them monthly.

– Sandra K., Chicago, IL (Pet owner)

As a property manager, tenants with allergies always complained about air quality. These covers have been perfect – affordable enough to install in multiple units, and the health benefit keeps tenants happy and renewing leases. I stock replacement filters and sell them at cost. Total game-changer for tenant satisfaction.

– Patricia L., Denver, CO (Property Manager, 40 units)

My son has severe dust mite allergies. His allergist recommended covering vents in his bedroom. These filter covers have made such a difference – his morning congestion is almost gone. The investment in monthly filters is nothing compared to what we used to spend on allergy medications.

– Michael S., Phoenix, AZ (Father of child with dust mite allergy)
