Product Description
The TriLite VS1 and VS110 are electromechanical sirens: a motor spins a rotor to produce the sound rather than a speaker reproducing a tone. The manufacturer rates both at 101 dB measured at 10 feet, on a pedestal mount with a chrome grille.
The two models differ in one respect. The VS1 runs on 12 VDC and the VS110 runs on 120 VAC. There is no universal version that covers both, so the model has to match your supply.
One specification deserves attention before anything else: the manufacturer permits a maximum of 60 seconds of continuous operation. This is a burst device, not an alarm you leave sounding.
Do you need the VS1 or the VS110?
Match the model to the supply. The VS1 is the 12 VDC siren, which suits battery systems, vehicles and low-voltage control panels. The VS110 is the 120 VAC siren for standard building power. Order the wrong one and it either will not run or will not survive, and the two part numbers differ by three characters. Worth noting: some distributor listings call the VS110 a 110 volt siren, while the manufacturer table says 120 VAC. Specify from the manufacturer figure.
How loud is 101 dB at 10 feet?
Loud enough to carry across a yard, and the distance is part of the number. Sound pressure drops as you move away from the source, so a rating taken at 10 feet is not directly comparable with one taken at a metre or at 100 feet. When you compare this siren against another product, check that both figures were measured the same way. Keep the distance attached to the number wherever it appears in your own documentation, for the same reason.
Can the siren run continuously?
No. The manufacturer permits operation for up to 60 seconds at a time, which shapes how you use it. It suits an alert burst: an intrusion signal, a start-up warning, a call to attention. It does not suit a sustained evacuation tone or an alarm expected to sound until someone silences it. One detail the manufacturer page does not establish is how long the siren needs to rest between bursts. If your application involves repeated cycling, get that recovery time in writing before you specify it.
How does the pedestal mount work?
The siren mounts on a pedestal rather than hanging from a bracket or sitting flush in a wall. That puts the device where it can project without obstruction, and it means your mounting point has to take the weight and the vibration of a motor-driven unit. Check the fixing surface before ordering. The chrome grille is part of the housing and protects the rotor while letting the sound out.
What is an electromechanical siren, and how does it differ from an electronic alarm?
An electromechanical siren makes its sound mechanically. A motor spins a rotor past fixed ports, and the interrupted airflow produces the tone. An electronic alarm generates a waveform and plays it through a driver. The mechanical approach gives a rising and falling tone that people recognize as a siren, and there is no sound card to fail. The trade-offs are the moving parts, the duty limit and the fact that the tone is what it is, with no choice of pattern.
Is this a fire alarm or an evacuation device?
No such approval was established on the manufacturer page, and the copy should not suggest one. TriLite describes a security application. Life-safety signaling devices carry specific listings and are specified against building codes, and this siren has not been shown to hold any of those. If your application is fire or evacuation, that is a different product category with different paperwork.
What still needs checking?
The manufacturer gives us voltage by model, 101 dB at 10 feet, pedestal mounting, the chrome grille and the 60-second limit. What is not established: ingress rating, duty-cycle recovery time, and whether Supply Owl stocks both models. Those last items come from Joe's workbook and the manufacturer directly, and the page should not carry a firm claim on outdoor suitability or repeated cycling until they are answered.

Customer Testimonials
Life-changing for my daughter with asthma. We installed these in her bedroom and playroom, and her nighttime coughing has decreased dramatically. The pediatrician even noticed improvement in her breathing. We now replace filters monthly religiously – it is the best $20/month we spend for her health.
– Jennifer M., Portland, OR (Mother of 8-year-old with asthma)
I cannot believe the difference in dust accumulation. We used to dust furniture near vents twice a week – now maybe once a month. And my seasonal allergies are noticeably better when I am at home. The filter replacement is super easy, takes 30 seconds. Wish I had found these years ago.
– Robert T., Atlanta, GA (Allergy sufferer)
We have two cats and my husband is allergic. These filters in the bedroom have been a marriage-saver! He can actually breathe at night now. We still have the cats (obviously), but the constant sneezing and congestion is gone. The filters definitely catch pet hair – you can see it when you replace them monthly.
– Sandra K., Chicago, IL (Pet owner)
As a property manager, tenants with allergies always complained about air quality. These covers have been perfect – affordable enough to install in multiple units, and the health benefit keeps tenants happy and renewing leases. I stock replacement filters and sell them at cost. Total game-changer for tenant satisfaction.
– Patricia L., Denver, CO (Property Manager, 40 units)
My son has severe dust mite allergies. His allergist recommended covering vents in his bedroom. These filter covers have made such a difference – his morning congestion is almost gone. The investment in monthly filters is nothing compared to what we used to spend on allergy medications.
– Michael S., Phoenix, AZ (Father of child with dust mite allergy)
